I’m in Minneapolis. It’s really cold in this part of the country, but made up for by warm and polite people. I don’t think I have heard so many people say “thank you” in months.

Nice to know that the world my grandmother loved still lives on in parts of this country. Don’t think I don’t love LA, but let’s be honest, the people are rude and self absorbed. I like to blame it on cars. It would make anyone socially inept if you spent all your time in a pod yelling at the outside world for slowing you down.

I love LA for the weather and landscape. That is why photography is so big in LA. 12 months out of the year it’s nice. Within a three hour drive I can go from sand dunes in the desert to snow and then on to the ocean. The only thing we are missing is history in our architecture. El Pueblo de Los Angeles started in 1781. 1818 Avila Adobe is the oldest surviving house in Los Angeles, but in comparison to London or even New York, we will always be the young kid on the block of world cities.

LA is a good place and when you find your core friend’s it can be home, but until LA can solve the two problems of having a primarily rude population, and having more places where upper and lower class people can mix so they actually get to know each other, then LA will remain just a beautiful stage for performers.

The best places to see real LA are the Santa Monica pier, a Dodger game, a USC football game, UCLA Basketball game and the horse races at Santa Anita or Hollywood Park (depending on the time of year). To take a look at what LA was made from go down to Olvera street.

Minneapolis has great warm people but the outside temp is -20, so I’m happy I will be going back home to LA soon. I will miss people saying “thank you” though.
